When are auditions?
Auditions are on September 17 from 1:30pm to 4:00pm. Call backs will be on September 18 from 2:30 to 4:00pm.
What is a callback?
A callback means the director would like to see the actor again, perhaps to hear them read from the script or see them next to another actor. Receiving a callback does not guarantee a part in the show. Also, not receiving one doesn't mean you won't be cast.
Who can audition?
Any 3rd - 5th grade Maloney student.
What does my child need to audition?
A willingness to get up on stage and try new things.
Can you audition for more than one role?
Yes.
Is every child guaranteed a role?
No, unfortunately we can only accommodate about 15 children. There are a few additional behind the scenes opportunities that will become available once we have a parent volunteer to supervise backstage operations.
Does my child need to prepare anything for the audition?
No, but we recommend they come with a bottle of water and a snack in case there is a long wait time.
We weren’t able to fill out a form, can my child still audition?
There will be a stand by option in case a student doesn’t show up to their time slot, but an audition is not guaranteed.
Will my child get cast for a role they don’t want?
Please have conversations with your child in advance so they come to auditions with an open mindset, they will be offered a role based on their performance. If their chosen role is not to their liking, they are welcome to decline.
I filled out the form, what time should I come?
A list will be released the day before with time slots.
Is there anything I can do to help my child practice for the audition?
Things that may help a child give it their best try:
Practice speaking loudly in front of people
Practice exaggerated body movements to show excitement, fear, happiness, sadness, ect. It is much easier to have someone pull back some energy than it is to try and push out more.
What can I expect the audition to be like?
There will be a few different scripts to read from according to what roles the children are trying for. Children will be allowed to view the script samples on the board while they are waiting for their audition. When it is their turn to go on stage, they will be given a copy of the audition script to hold. They may be asked to act out things that might not on the script. For ex: Can you pretend you are sleeping and then wake up startled from a dream?
Do I need to show up before my timeslot?
Yes, we recommend you come at least 15 minutes prior so your student may read the script samples before being asked to read on stage.
I saw that practices will be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays after school. My child has a small part, do they need to be there all the time?
Once the cast list has been finalized, we will send out a practice schedule to all of our actors. Supporting roles and extras will likely be one day a week, but rehearsal times will be adjusted as needed. Main cast will likely be twice a week. There will be advance notice for changes in rehearsal schedule.
My child was cast in a role and I have religious or cultural concerns regarding costuming.
Please reach out to MaloneyPTAproductions@gmail.com with specific concerns as soon as possible so our costume coordinator can work on costumes with those concerns in mind.
We usually wear masks during school, does my child need to remove the mask to participate?
It is very hard to see a child’s facial expression and hear them clearly from the stage when it is behind a mask . During practices, we will be working on both voice projection and facial expressions. Having a mask on will make it difficult for your child to be seen and heard clearly.
Will you have understudies?
Yes, they will be chosen from the final cast.
