Frequently Asked Questions
Can my child bring an instrument?
They can bring anything they are able to carry on their own that does not need to be plugged into an outlet.
My song is 2 minutes and 10 seconds, can they keep the extra 10 seconds?
No, we will cut the song short at exactly minutes.
My child auditioned without music and made the final program, but now I want to add music.
Unfortunately, we cannot change the nature of the act after it has been approved by the judging panel. Please prepare your audition accordingly.
Can we watch the auditions?
Out of respect for the performers on stage, parents who are not serving as volunteers may only be in the MUR during their own child’s audition.
What happens to the audition process if there are technical difficulties during the audition?
If your child’s music stops or if there is an issue with the equipment, that is taken into account when scoring the auditions. During a show, students will need to continue as best as they can if there is a technical issue, same for the auditions.
The sign up genius and the waitlist is full, can you squeeze my child in?
Unfortunately no. The sign up list is first come first serve. We aim to accommodate as many children as we can but we are all parents donating our free time and we have our own families to attend to.
How to Prepare for Auditions
-Students/Parents are responsible for their own costumes, music, and rehearsal time leading up to and after the auditions.
-Take care of their little bodies, treat your child to a healthy afternoon snack and ensure they are well hydrated so they can perform their best.
-Give your child a pep talk beforehand, getting on stage can be scary.
-Come in costume and with your props. What we see on stage is what we expect to see on stage for the final performance. Costumes, music, props, routines, ect. will be set. If your act is selected, you need to keep it the same. There will be a 15 minute window after school during which your child can change or warm up if they are first.
- Arrive 10 minutes before your timeslot. Someone will be checking your child's sign up to make sure they have the proper forms turned in. Being early allows time to complete these things without rushing the child.
Something to note:
Not everyone will be chosen for the show. As much as we would like to put every child on stage in the final show, we are only able to choose 20 of the 40 acts to advance to the next stage. Please prepare your child for either outcome.
